Like most sports photography, some boating tips are to make photos with a telephoto 300mm+ lens, normal 50mm lens and wide 14mm lens and to photograph from low and high angles.  Hover inches above the water for a dramatic low angle.  Make photos of the boat speeding, idling and off.  Climb to a rooftop for a higher vantage point. Consider backgrounds, foregrounds, exposure, lighting and geographic location.
